This Genuine MB thermostat opens at 92*C (198*F). The stock thermostat that you have in your van opens at 87*C (188*F).

During the summer, we usually want our vans to run as cool as possible, so the lower temperature thermostat is ideal. But in the WINTER, when the temps are cold, we want our vans to run at a warmer temperature. This is better for the engine and also helps pump more heat into the interior to keep us warm.

If you live in a climate that regularly falls below freezing, then you might want to consider this WINTER THERMOSTAT for your engine (and yourself).

FAQ:

Q: Won’t this WINTER thermostat make my van overheat in the summer??

A: No. All things considered, if your van has a properly functioning cooling system (available from MMS), your van will not overheat. It will just rest at ~198*F instead of ~188*F (92*C/87*C).

Q: Can I swap thermostats for winter and summer?

A: Yes, but you shouldn’t need to. As stated above, the WINTER thermostat is totally safe to run in the summer (it is actually a STOCK thermostat on some Mercedes Diesels, used year round).

Q: My Sprinter gets plenty of heat in the cabin in the winter. Should I replace my thermostat with this WINTER thermostat?

A: Probably not. If your van gets warm and stays warm in your climate, the stock thermostat is enough to get the job done.
