If you drive a T1N Sprinter with the OM647 engine, parts sourcing is becoming part of the ownership experience. Some components are still easy to get; others, like the oil separator, are getting harder to find — and the options that remain are not all created equal.
The Problem: OM647 Oil Separator Options Are Drying Up
When it's time to replace the oil separator on your OM647, you have three options, and Joel lays them out plainly:
- Mercedes-Benz: extremely limited stock, with many units now NLA (no longer available).
- Aftermarket: readily available, but with a high failure rate.
- MMS (Million Mile Sprinter): quality you can trust.
Symptoms
The oil separator does its job every time your engine runs. When it fails, replacement is the only fix — and choosing a part you can trust the first time keeps you from doing the job twice.
Pro Tip
Don't gamble on a high-failure-rate aftermarket oil separator. With OEM stock nearly gone, a quality MMS replacement is the option Joel recommends for your OM647.
